The "Balıkesir Local Climate Change Action Plan Workshop," organized through the collaboration of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and the Balıkesir City Council, was held with the participation of public institutions, local governments, academics, and relevant stakeholders.
Balıkesir University Renewable Energy Research, Development, Application and Research Center (YEAUM) was represented at the workshop by the Center Director, Associate Professor Ersin Akyüz, and Deputy Directors Dr. Metin Gül and Dr. Batın Demircan.
As part of the workshop, the YEAUM team took part in the Energy Working Group, where they shared their views and recommendations with stakeholders on energy transition, the effective utilization of renewable energy resources, and sustainable energy policies.
In the panel moderated by Professor Oya İnci Bolat, Associate Professor Ersin Akyüz joined Associate Professor Burcu Güngör Cabbar and Professor Mustafa Sarı to discuss climate change, urban climate resilience, and sustainability. The panel addressed the impacts of climate change on local governments, the economy, and the environment, while also presenting recommendations to enhance cities' capacity to adapt to changing climate conditions.
During the presentation delivered within the panel, Türkiye's renewable energy potential, recent developments in the energy transition process, the European Green Deal, and the impacts of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on our country were evaluated. The importance of renewable energy investments in achieving low-carbon development goals was also emphasized.
As YEAUM, we are pleased to take part in such organizations that contribute to combating climate change, promoting sustainable development, and advancing the energy transition.
