OVERVIEW
Balıkesir is one of the provinces in Türkiye with the highest wind energy potential. For this reason, it ranks among the leading provinces in terms of the number of wind power plants currently installed in the country. In addition, a significant share of the companies producing the main components of wind power plants such as towers, blades, generators, and transformers are located either within the boundaries of Balıkesir or in close proximity to the province.
Beyond its wind resources, Balıkesir also possesses remarkable potential in solar and geothermal energy, while offering substantial agricultural and livestock waste capacity that can be utilized for biogas and biomass energy production.
As a result of these favorable conditions, the Renewable Energy Research, Development, Application and Research Center was established in 2013. The Center’s primary objectives are to serve as a national training hub for technical personnel in the renewable energy sector, to develop domestic renewable energy technologies, and to design methods and devices that enhance energy efficiency and improve power quality.
